About me
Hi there 👋,
I’m Matt Delacour, CTO at CoinList, where I lead an engineering organization of 30+ people building consumer crypto products across web, backend, and mobile. My work spans technical strategy, team-building, and the day-to-day judgment calls of shipping at velocity in a regulated industry.
I came up the unconventional way — I started by founding a B2C company, taught myself to code, and worked as a data scientist before moving into engineering leadership. That path still shapes how I think: product empathy, and well-crafted systems.
I care a lot about open source and the craft of building maintainable software. I’m the author and maintainer of tiny-orm, a small Rust ORM built for simplicity, and earlier I was a core maintainer of Feast, the open-source feature store.
These days I mostly write about engineering leadership, judgment and taste, and what AI-assisted development actually changes about the work — and what it doesn’t.
Quick timeline
January 2025 — Became CTO at CoinList, leading a 30+ person engineering organization through engineering managers and tech leads.
2024 — As Head of Engineering, led the team that shipped CoinList’s native iOS and Android apps, extending the platform to mobile.
March 2022 — Joined CoinList to build out their data team. I’d been curious about blockchain for a while, and it was a way into an industry I wanted to understand from the inside.
August 2022 — My team at Shopify released Merlin, the first in-house Machine Learning platform — about 1.5 years of work. My colleague Isaac wrote a great blog post on it.
2021 — Became a core maintainer of Feast, gave a talk on scaling its offline queries to billions of rows, and built an open-source Feast/Trino plugin that later moved into the official repo. Contributing to open source has been some of the most gratifying work I’ve done. © 2026 Matt Delacour
